Got my "Lockpicker's Callus "

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Got the telltale mark ! I've since put a couple of layers of electrical shrink wrap on my pick handles .

Best Regards,

Agreed I have the calluses from picking as well as from my hacksaw and files due to my lack of a dremel.

I noticed that as I learned to use less and less tension, the callus disappeared. My right index, thumb and middle finger are still tougher at the tips though. I mostly use hacksaw picks dipped in plasti-dip, so they are not the most comfortable...

Congrats!

With all my parkour callouses, climbing callouses, i can't really tell if i have picking callouses yet :D. Fingers are hurting from the metal handle, but thankfully a set of pick grips are coming.

Until you ease off the pressure on the tension wrench and pick, and before your pick grips arrive, you can wrap the pick handles in electrical tape or shrink tubing.

Thanks for the advice :D ! If they hurt more, i will definitely do that!
However, urban climbing (called buildering) is one of my favorite hobbies, so I'm used to fingers hurting and calluses :) , and have adequate treatments for them.

The grips are coming tomorrow anyways :D

I couldn't help but to chuckle. I didn't realize before that people on end practicing. Then I realized that that's why my picks are shrink tubed. Youl have to tell me how those grips feel.

Just got them. They feel pretty good, rough but I like that feel. It feels way better than just metal handles.

I was thinking of dip grip. But that stuff looks terrible. I'm actially fond of wire wrapped handles bit they take forever to make.

On my homemade picks I first use plastic dip for bulk
and finish it with a layer of shrink tubing for a smooth comfortable feel.
Then gently (with jaws cushioned with shoebox pieces for flatness) sqeeze it in a vise as the tubing cools for nice flat sides and firmness. :)

Forgot to say, if you want a diamond pattern on the handles like Petersons , just use the vise jaws with a layer of masking tape so it does not stick. and let them print it on for you .
I like them flat myself.
