HI there, Im new here but have some skill and have picked before, Im a locksmithing student and want to buy American made products and am seriously considering the Petersen brand HOWEVER Im a full shank pick guy. Allways have been since 72, and back then most picks were full shank. SO what do yall think? Full shank or not full shank. I know the Petersen's have at least an inch shank which looks like it goes to the first hole in the pick body but no farther, also the wonderfull woman at Petersens tools said over the phone that there product has a lifetime warranty but I cant find that information on the website. Anyone? Thanks! G.

The rubber handled gov't steel picks are full shank/full tang. I like this better in some cases since you can cut off the rubber and attach your own handle or make something else out of the handle if you break the pick. The plastic handled picks provide very good feedback and I've never had a problem with them breaking or transmitting feedback. Keep in mind that the newer style 'euro' picks with the reduced height of the pick shaft are only available with plastic handles - these are far more versatile in tight keyways and I haven't noticed a reduction in strength with normal use.

Thanks! I think I'm going with the G4b set, it seems to have all I will and would need. I'm going to order it in the morning IF they do indeed have a lifetime warranty. I want to by this guy's stuff really bad, so we will see. Keep y'all posted. Again Thanks.

Well I went with the G4b set but I got the plastic handles mostly due to the lifetime warranty. Barb assured me that if any pick ever fails all I have to do is sent it back. Plus got American made tools! Cant wait they ship tomorrow should be here by saturday.

Do you really think the warranty covers the picks that failed cause I got mad at the thing & gave it a twist too?
I honestly wonder because I know after buying Craftsman pin punches (which are only guaranteed if you throw a fit)cause they say "we can't control the force you use when you hit the punch with a hammer blah blah blah" and then I buy a better punch after that...

I asked what if I mangled a pick in a lock? And Barb said basically that if that happened thing they would trip replace it once but that would be it. She basically said their equipment would handle everyday professional use. Made in America so you know I had to buy. Real nice folks too.

I don't think I was clear on that last post, if you're a locksmith and it breaks at work they replace, sounds just like snap on.

Ok, First a word about the picks, I got not full shank, and did it to save a hundred bucks. The picks feel great and even with my heavy hand they dont flex or distort. I got the G4B set with plastic handles and added the DCAP or deep cut access picks and the hooked diamond which I find to be very nice to use. After about a week my fine calf skin case ripped a few stiches so I called Barb and they sent me a new one, actually I got the Master case which has even thicker leather on the back, so you could say that I was stoked. Would I do it again? Yes, yes I would. Great company with excellent customer service!

I'll second the part about good service - I'm a huge fan of the plastic handled picks.
