Candex cam lock

I came across a cam lock the other day and did not have a key for it. I took it back to my shop and found the Ilco 1674 to work exactly. I ran the code and found that it was a Candex code. The key was very easy to make after knowing the relative depths. However, I wanted to see what the wafers and inside looked like. The plug will not come out with the cam and screw removed. I do not want to force it yet and wondered if anyone else knows what is holding the plug in. I suspect there is a wire expansion ring that fits into a groove in the case. Can anyone clarify this? Sometimes there is another wafer in the back that needs to be lifted to remove the plug. It takes a longer key blank for the control key, but it is easy enough to pick.

How do you run a code and find out what kind of code it is?

Like Gordon said, it sounds like there is a control wafer that needs to be set. I recently changed out the wafer lock on my desk at work (Steel Case). After the lock was picked open I had to put the long end of tension wrench down the key way and push that last wafer down while pulling the lock out at the same time. Give that a shot and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the input. I am quite familiar with the retaining wafer and this feature is not present on this lock. Before I get heavy handed out of frustrated curiosity I will be patient and wait to see if someone else has had specific experience with this lock. I may try putting large shims in around the face to see if I can find a wire ring.

We use codes online. The code gave me the name along with the cuts as a reference to what type of product the code applied to. However the program did not have the ITL reference
