I remember when I started my Dad would get a new schlage deadbolt lock out of the box and begin cutting a third gen key. The first time I rebuilt a key machine it took me lots of blanks to finally get it just right. I had to be careful to choose a lock with pins no deeper than an 8, so I could re-cut all those practice keys and sell them later on rekey jobs.
i got a bunch of old keys lying around, including the old screw ups that i cut. usually i just throw them away because the keys i cut are all brass due to its softer nature leading to less wear and tear on my machines. as a result, after a while the brass becomes dull. is it worth it to cut over the old keys and recycle them that way at the possible consequence of giving off a bad image for providing old keys?
