The Speedex is as accurate as any other key machine and totally depends upon your properly adjusting it in order to cut a 3rd or higher generation key. I remember when I started my Dad would get a new schlage deadbolt lock out of the box and begin cutting a third gen key. The first time I rebuilt a key machine it took me lots of blanks to finally get it just right. I had to be careful to choose a lock with pins no deeper than an 8, so I could re-cut all those practice keys and sell them later on rekey jobs.

i got a bunch of old keys lying around, including the old screw ups that i cut. usually i just throw them away because the keys i cut are all brass due to its softer nature leading to less wear and tear on my machines. as a result, after a while the brass becomes dull. is it worth it to cut over the old keys and recycle them that way at the possible consequence of giving off a bad image for providing old keys?

This. If you are charging full price, customers will expect a shiny new key.

Scrap out miscuts and used keys. Brass is selling for about $1.80 per pound right now.

Does the huge ammunition shortage have to do with the high price in brass? I've been around the process of ammunition loading and notice that brass is $$$

Sorry but I'm jewish and my key machine is equipped with a wire brush.
It's a good idea to wipe off the keys before handing them over to your client,
you don't wanna leave whatever is on your hands all over their new keys.

I charge a minimum of $3.25 for each key I sell from my van. Your Speedex is equipped with a brush, so use it to clean up old keys. Of course I don't mix different makes of old keys, I like them to all look the same. If you shine it up you just made $3.25
