Hmm. Heres a few points
1) Very user unfriendly
2) would make all keys be stepped.
3) Giving a lock the option to quickfail creates a timing oracle. - Read about that vulnerability in TLS 1.0 if you dont understand. The pin could simply be raised at a quick speed until the fail signal is registered, thus telling the would be picker the exact hieght. Then, they could just repeat for the next pins once the lock is reset.
