What if in a lock one of the sedated pins had a very precise range finder pointing down on to the top of the pin to measure its height in the lock. If a key was used the serated pin would go into the proper height very quickly. if the pin stayed between the correct height an the lowest height for more than a second an alarm would sound. This would mean if you we're picking it you would have to set the serated pin in one second which would be neigh impossible. This could also be used to detect bump keying if the alarm was triggered if the pin wen above the proper height.

Hmm. Heres a few points

1) Very user unfriendly
2) would make all keys be stepped.
3) Giving a lock the option to quickfail creates a timing oracle. - Read about that vulnerability in TLS 1.0 if you dont understand. The pin could simply be raised at a quick speed until the fail signal is registered, thus telling the would be picker the exact hieght. Then, they could just repeat for the next pins once the lock is reset.

What if the first pin in the binding order was glass then if you turned the plug it would lock permanently. This might not be practical but it would be kind of like a glass relocker on a safe

if it broke it would just "master key" the glass pin. maybe glass vial pin a quick air activated polymer would make a cheap relocker.
