Don't Pick Your Tubulars more than once!

Postby daniel22747 » 19 Mar 2014 2:53

Ok so I learned a cool little trick for manually picking tubular locks.

(Moderators if you think this should not be talked about here please feel free to move it to the advanced high security section of the forums. I think it is ok cause this is about hand picking tubulars)

This method is for picking a tublar lock with something like a small half diamond for a poker and whatever you choose to use for tensioning these guys.

Once you have the lock picked a common problem is that you have to pick it two or three times to get the lock to turn all the way. To relock it you have to do the same in the other direction.

However once you pick it one time you can just turn the lock a little bit. Stop before the lock relocks itself. From here you can insert a bussiness card that has been rolled up to the diameter of the lock (use tape to keep the card rolled up). Press hard and wiggle to impression the key pins into the card. Once you have done this you can now use the card to turn the lock all the way without having to pick it several times.

Saves you a lot of trouble!

Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Interesting! I would have never thought of that, but you know what? I have a tubular lock and I'll try that out right now. Good thing is that there is a taco shop next door to me and they have tons of business cards to give out. I'll let you know what my results were.

I mocked up a system with a severely thinned-down key and aluminum foil for this once, before coming to the same solution you yourself found.

Have a go making a pick for these locks using a ground-down key, a thick o-ring and some spring-steel rods - solves the issue of having to repick the lock.

Free business cards are sweet, especially if there is no printing on the back side, then I can use them for my key board, to help keep me organized. One of my competitors likes to leave stacks of his cards in my town & they sure do work!

They didn't work as great as I thought. I forgot to report on this thread, but yes, I've tried it and it's tricky.

It's ok, it's more of a challenge to just decode the pick & make a key
