Interesting gimmick, unfortunately the guy who steals the bike will likely just use the harbor freight 36" bolt cutter as his "master key", snip snip is what mine always seems to say.
I'm wondering if the factory has a replacement warranty for the U part of the lock, for after it is cut off...

I hope not. Those things broke the first time I used them on a Master #1!

I have a pair of old 48" long bolt cutters that my grandfather left for me when we bought his house. I've tested them on a few things and they pretty easily cut through a 1" hardened steel bolt.

I have to put one handle on the floor and push down the other one since they are too far apart to get good leverage with a 1" bolt in the cutter.

Are you sure it is 1 inch? are any u-bolt bike lock bolts actually THAT thick? the New York Kryptionite is 18mm or .70 inches.

It was a 1" threaded bolt that I purchased from a hardware store, not a bike lock. I had a 3/4" bolt (diameter of the threaded area) and it cut that easily so I wanted to see how easily it cut a 1" bolt. I'd have a hard time getting anything much bigger to fit deep enough into the cutter to actually cut it.

I have cut many #5 Master padlocks with mine. The thing is you hafta open the handles All the way & get the padlock in the blades all the way at the bottom. Thing about cheap bolt cutters is you can't tell just how well they were hardended.

Typically a bolt like that isn't hardened like a padlock shackle. There are quite a range of hardness levels. I have some 48" HK Porter ones, made in the US, the old ones. And whilst they can cut most padlocks, they won't touch the better Abus or Kryptonite bike locks.

Cut off wheels love hard materials, get a 3" one & a die grinder &
it'll cut through anything I have tried it on. Beware of cut-off wheel
disintigration, it'll take your eyes out if you aren't careful.
