Help reassembling a Era 5 Lever Visount

Well I was carbooting looking for some old locks I found a rather new mortice lock for sale picked it up for £2.50 what a bargain, I get it home I turn that key and nothing happened it was stuck.

It opened it up to find out he took it apart nothing was right in it. Anyway I reassembeld it to the best of my knowledge.

Inside was the bolt thrower, bolt and the pack of blades which are numbered like so: #1 x2, #3 x2 and #4 x1.

I worked out the blades are 13431 out of endevilment assuming I was wrong I also went along the route of 31413

Would agree that the bitting of the key appears to be 13431.

Reassemble the lock with the bolt in the opposite position. (If you first assembled it with the bolt extended, retract it, and vice-versa).

With it reassembled it doesn't raise a few of the blades still, this is truly baffling me

could just be the incorrect key.

with the cover off, and pressing your finger on the lever's pivot point to hold them in place from popping off, insert key from the back and see what's going on. the key should at least touch all the bellies and then you'll see if key is cut too shallow or not cut enough in certain positions.

I'm not expert in lever locks, just some observations from my limited work with them.

I have almost the same lock somewhere at home. I'll look for it, remove one side and post some pictures for you tomorrow.

the point of reflection of the key is in the centre of the lock, not the centre of the lever pack. so from the bolt you want 34311. this type of coding is usually referred to as, ABA coding.

ps if you look at the key the end bitting is wider than the others, so the key is 1134311, 7 bits with the first or last 2 turning the curtain or throwing the bolt depending on what side of the lock you're using

I would truly appreciate it, I think that is the sash lock version

Looks like you assembled it right. Just check the levers position and you're done.

Yeah, I disassembled one like that a while ago and IIRC, it seems to be a correct assembly for me too.
The only thing to pas attention for is the sequence of levers. You can test tha by putting in the key and trying it out without a cover. Make sure the key is and stays in the correct position (the position it would be in if you would insert it normally with the cover one) and angle.

Hey thanks for the pictures! one thing I found on mine the last lever on the bottom of the pack is over the catch that seems to be the only way it will fit the entire thing in when the bolt is retracted which would explain a lot really. I tried different combos but it still does the same thing.

Thought I would do a quickie update on this!. I haven't had a go at sorting it for awhile and posting mainly because work but! none the less after a small break I sat back and reread the posts so thank you every one for your help!.

I found the combo out which what I originally thought 13431 was wrong.

I reread this and thought 11433 but with that it opened but wouldn't lock so I carefully watched the key turning quite a few times slow motion with my keen heavy handedness and noticed it was just the one blade out 114(3)3 so I thought swap it with the 1 but nope no go at all now.

In the end I thought well number 4 was raising pretty high so I swapped it with the 3 11343 and voila it opened. I ended up getting a bargain and learning something new which I hope others can read about on here and learn from the same help and information every one has given me .
