I decided to get one of these kits from MrWizard and I have to say that I'm extremely impressed! Everything down to the packaging is really well put together. It arrived about 40hrs after I contacted MrWizard which, needless to say, I was stoked about!

The initial key biting was a bit of a challenge but I think I've got the hang of it now. Time for some spool's...

Anyone in the market for a practice lock should look no further than this kit. It's reasonably priced and very well put together, not to mention the great customer service from MrWizard :D

Just do it.

No one has said it and maybe it's inappropriate to ask for some reason, but how much does it cost? It's definitely on my wishlist and I'd like to know.

Thanks for the great review, nice picture I am glad you like it.
That was some record shipping time the post office was on the ball.
I always try to send same day ordered as I hate waiting for something to arrive myself.

I sent you a PM that can answer your question.

Ok, heres my very detailed review of Mr. Wizards Super Max Security 7-pin Practice Lock. It arrived a little less than two days after I ordered it. I live in Hawaii (the most remote archipelago) so this is very rare. When I opened the box I could see how much care was put into just packaging this product. Everything was organized and bubble-wrapped accordingly. Instructions were folded up nicely in a sealed envelope. All of the pins were separated in different bags and all the bags were in one bigger bag. The lock itself is very nice, very shiny and clean. I highly recommend this lock to any people that need a versatile and long-lasting lock.

+1 for a solid benevolent and effective service from MrWizard(Richard). Order the package Friday and got it arrived today (6days in the mail), and he'll send to Australia!
This lock comes with a whole lot a neat accessories ranging from key pins, driver pins (standard and security pins), master pins, and a ton of assorted springs. The lock core and plug is well manufactured with no scratches (Which will last a long time). Keys have a assorted bitting and all came in bubble-wrap, with a ton of detailed information in a envelop.
I'd highly recommended this set for new pickers and/or experienced pickers with the different pins to give you a nasty time.

With it being cheap, and in good condition I am a very satisfied with the service and will recommended this set to people who want a set that you can re-use and re-pin in minutes.

Thanks a lot MrWiard.

is it easier or harder that a best lock to pick? A best lock has seven normal pins which provide little to no feedback.

I would say it is as hard to pick as you want to make it by the combination you key it to. And then you have the option to add serrated or spool pins anyplace you like. A beginner can start with 2 or 3 pins and work up to as many as they can handle. When you load it to 7 pins it is very tough to pick even without security pins but add those or have someone else key the lock and add spool or serrated pins in unknown random cells should keep you busy for a while. Lots of options including master pins found in apartments and commercial locks so you can see how it feels when keyed to master systems and practice mastering keying if you like. Fun for the whole family.

Best cylinders have very tight tolerances and usually have very deep cuts next to shallow ones makes it even more harder to pick compared to conventional style cylinders with less drastic adjacent cuts. And then there is the 2 shear lines that can be confusing plus dealing with spool pins. And sometimes the cylinder can be so tight it is binding makes it hard to easily release tension to be able to drop pins that are over lifted too high without dropping all the pins. Takes some getting use to. Best can be very frustrating to pick.

Hey everyone,

I just want to give this thread a big ol' bump to let you all know awesome this lock is.

I have had mine for a few weeks now and am still very glad i purchased it. Mr. Wizard was very professional and quick with his shipping. The lock is very well put together and a joy to work with. I have removed and inserted pins almost everyday since I got it and it doesn't show any signs of wear.

I have never re-keyed or removed and pins from anything before but it's really no problem with the instructions provided. It's so easy to turn a couple screws and remove/insert what's needed.

With the variety of pins and springs included I'm sure I will be busy with this for a long time.

I have learned so much in the last few weeks playing with this lock it's already paid for itself with knowledge. If you are new to lock picking and reading this, buy this lock. You will learn something.

Thanks Mr. Wizard for such a quality product :D

Everyone was recommending this Practice Lock and now i know why! I'm totally stoked with the quality and amount of accessories!

I ordered from Australia. Richard shipped on the same day and it arrived in less than a week. Well packaged with the contents encased in bubble wrap and the shipping box with extra sticky tape.

I just started learning lockpicking. Being up to configure the lock with a single pin to feel the binding and pin resistance, and slowly work my way up with more pins has being invaluable (i'm still working with 3 pins atm). And being able to configure it up to 7 pins as well as having different security pins, i don't believe i'll ever tire of this lock!

Not only can i not find a better practice lock, Richard has being immensely helpful with the questions i had, so i really can't recommend buying this lock enough.

So I stumbled on to this thread while browsing the forum last Thursday and spent all Friday debating on getting this lock. I just got mine and all I can say is wow, I'm impressed. I haven't done anything with it yet except take it out of the box and look at it but the packaging and the shipping speed are awesome. I sent Mr.Wizard a pm at like 10pm on a Friday, not expecting to get a response for a few days or so, but he responded within about 5 minutes. I sent my order in at about midnight and didn't expect it to ship till Monday (today). Super fast service and shipping. The kit was packaged well and looked very professional. I'm super happy with this purchase.

I have had mine for about a month and I'm very impressed. I was also impressed with how fast the shipping was.

Thanks for putting this package together.

Very cool practice lock. Wish there was a way to give MrWizard thumbs up seller feedback. Been playing around with my lock for a few days off and on. I enjoy the ease of being able to add or subtract pins easily. Great tool! Only can SPP 3 pins so far. Trying to work on my tension wrench placement in the keyway. Anyways great learning tool!
