Help identifying tool box lock

Postby kaelanh » 12 May 2014 17:09

Hey everyone...

Need help identifying this one. It came off of a custom tool box. Any help would be appreciated, I need to order more of them and im not sure where to look. I have the keys to this one, so no need to find keys or anything. just need help identifying the lock itself. Thanks!

Looks like a single sided wafer lock, similar to what you'd find on an older car.

Are the cams held onto the back of the lock body with a screw, or are they swaged on? If screw mount, then I would think you could use just about any cam lock you wanted.

If you just need the cam lock, basically anything from 5/8"-1" will work as long as you still have the cam from the old lock.

If you need the cam and lock rod, it depends on what brand of truck body it came off of. There are a lot of these utility bodies still out there even after their mfg went out of business. If they are still in business you might be forced to purchase an entire handle assembly to get all of the parts you need. You can also check Ebay for used handle assemblies if you need the hardware.

Usually if any parts are missing, I just replace the entire handle assembly with a new one.

That looks like a single-sided wafer lock with a keyway dust-cover and a tailpiece specific to the manufacturer of the toolbox. The code stamped on the front is a look-up code for replacement keys (CH is the keyway type and 503 is the look-up number for the specific bitting), at least one retailer offering replacement parts for that lookup code seems to indicate that they are commonly used on UWS toolboxes. Unfortunately without any additional markings I am not sure how to track down the manufacturer of that exact lock. As 1MrChristopher pointed out, if the tailpiece/cam is held on with a screw or bolt just about any wafer/cam lock of the same diameter and depth should accept the tailpiece and fit the original housing.
