MBA USA's Advanced safe lock manipulation course

Not sure if this is allowed here but it doesn't give out any "classified" information so I'll give it a shot...

MBA USA has a course on advanced safe lock manipulation that covers group 1, 2M, s&g padlocks, disc detainer safe locks, and many other areas. Here's the list of what's being offered in the class:

UL ratings for Mechanical Safe Locks
Advanced Dialing Techniques
The LaGard 3330 safe lock
Current S&G and LaGard Group 2M locks
Mosler Locks
Star round door safe locks
S&G 8400 locks
S&G 8500 locks
S&G 2937 locks
The LaGard 2200 and 2270
Early versions of the S&G 8077 padlock
Operation of the ITL 2000 Autodialer
Amplifiers, magnifiers, and other manipulation aids

It's a 3 day course at their facility in Kentucky I believe but the only problem is that they need at least 3 people to sign up in order to hold the class. You don't necessarily have to be a locksmith or safe technician to sign up, you just can't have a shady past. This is definitely an advanced class. They state that you should have at least 10 unaided manipulations of group 2 locks before signing up. Here's the link to their page about it: http://www.mbausa.com/course_92.asp?e=1 If you're interested, you can pm me and if we get a 3 person group, I'll contact MBA USA and let them know or you can email them at education@mbausa.com and they'll put you on a list. I'm already on the list so I just need at least 2 other people to express interest, and then we can all work on deciding a date which works for all of us.

They do have a 3 day manipulation course outside of the advanced one that's scheduled for November, I might have to take a trip.

Their courses all look really good! Their other manipulation course looks like it'd great for people getting into this hobby! It only lightly touches on group 1 though :/ And it doesn't have any 2M's or the other goodies the advanced class has.

What relationship does this place have to Lockmasters Security Institute? I find it odd that two different locksmith schools would be in the same small town.

Ikr! I noticed that too. I have no clue if they're related at all though. Maybe someone else could enlighten us?

They are direct competition, but both are very respected and liked by everyone in the locksmith/safe tech community.

I seem to remember hearing that Mark Bates worked for LSI but went out and started his own business just down the road. I may be totally wrong, but that's what I remember hearing while at Lockcon at LSI's facility a couple summers ago.

Both companies are in the shadow of the Sargent & Greenleaf factory located on a hill which would explain why they are both in a small Kentucky town.

I told my wife about the MBA courses about a month ago, and how if I can get enough money saved up (and maybe finagle my employer into paying for half of the experience, we do have vault doors to maintain) I would really like to take the GSA Certified Safe & Vault Technician Class, followed by the Advanced Manipulation class in the next year or so. Dream big right?

It's also not as comprehensive. They basically only cover group 1 s&g's :(

You guys are lucky. I would love to get into a course like this. I would love to go to a place where you can network, and learn these type of things around others who have the same interest in learning this information. I guess I would have to take the low road, and tediously read this information from books, and some videos.

I would also love to attend some of those classes. But time and funds are low. Someday, though. Someday.
