Master Locl 40mm - am I crazy?

Postby cheveedodd » 27 May 2014 18:16

So, I'm a total newb picking my way through a little collection of padlocks. I've picked this 40mm a few times now and I'm pretty sure I'm only setting 2 pins each time I get an open. The key is cut for 4, but I can't feel that at all. I've even made SURE to avoid bumping the first pin and Obstill get an open. Am I just not feeling it right because I'm so new?

Sometimes I think that setting another pin will cause a vibration enough to help set pins. I have found that out in the past and I still have a lock that will open without setting all the pins. I know I do not set all the pins but it still will open.

That could be part of it. After posting this I looked at the bitting on the key and pin 1 is as low as it goes. Super easy to bump apparently. Maybe I'm setting 3 and 4 at once. Might buy another of the same to compare.

Are two of the cuts on the key very deep?

Pin 1 is but the others are all high. I must be setting 3 and 4 together.

Yes that is possible. You could be and I could be setting two pins at the same time.
