schlage everest control pin

Postby MikeTheLocksmith » 1 Jun 2014 19:38

I realize this may not be appropriate, and if it isn't then please disregard this. I have a schlage everest that I acquired from a job site. I was excited for my first high security lock. I have found it to be more medium security as it was ezy to figure out the pick;however, for the life of me I cannot find the control pin. Hours of digging around behind the 6th pin and nothing. I have looked to the left and the right of the stack line and it isn't there!! Lol... Well I am pretty sure it is but I cannot find it. Does anyone have a clue as to why I can't feel it?

Thank you,

Mike

It's at the bottom on the right. I used a thinned out piece of wiper insert and pressed it in against the pin. If the lock is KIK, you can see the lug retract when you put the insert in to lift the check pin.

Well it should be on the right side of the lock.

Watch this video and it will answer your question.

Sorry, I know about the side pin on the bottom right. I should have been more clear. This is an ic and I am trying to remove the core. I have read the treads and watched a YouTube video, but cannot produce the result of core out!! Lol. Picking to open is jot a problem!! Which I was excited about haha.

If you can cut a key for it, you can just cut the tip at a 6 cut.

Have you seen this video?

It seems like on the Evereat IC core the pin is at the top in the back (if I'm understanding the video correctly).

That is correct - the tip of the key would be a 6 cut to operate the control pin, just as with the other Schlage LFIC cores.

If it is large format interchangeable core (I think schlage calls them standard format interchangeable core to confuse everyone) then the control pin would be the seventh and last pin, and the check pin is towards the back of the lock.

If it is small format interchangeable core then it uses a different set of cuts for the control sleeve just like a Best SFIC. Also, the check pin is towards the front of the lock.

Pictures would clear up what lock you are really working on.
Also Everest isn't high-security unless it is Everest Primus with 5 finger pins.

FF, you are close! Schlage calls them Full Size Interchangeable Core (FSIC) but everyone else calls them LFIC :)

Thanks jeff, I knew they didn't call them LFIC and couldn't remember what they called them. :)

Also I was wondering exactly how to tell the difference between large format and small format.

Thank you,

Here is a good page that shows the differences between the two.

Thank you for the link. My experience level with ic is limited to the one from the above pictures. It will take me some exposure to get good at identifying them. I want to take it apart which is why I am trying to remove this thing from the core lol. Maybe I will just order one with a key lol. I figure it is important to be able to do it without a key though!

Thanks,
Mike

I can't tell for sure from your pictures since they are pretty small pictures.. I think they are the FSIC, so there should be a seventh pin for control. Those are very hit and miss on if they can even be picked out with regular picks (without doing what I'm suggesting below).

It's better to cut a control key down to where nothing but the control cut and the very bottom of the key is left. Then you can pick it like normal and pull the core out with ease. As a bonus the key will hold up the check pin. :)

This is a schlage C not an everest, but exactly the same concept.

You can also make a bump key and bump the cores out usually in a few seconds.
