Help picking and making key for chest lock

Hello, Iv come across an old travel chest I found on the road, it was very deformed so Iv reinforced it and now have managed to get the latch and lock hole to line up when closed. I think the bit of steel that comes up and holds the latch shut is half or fully locked, tho the chest is open.

Can you tell me what kind of lock this is and how to pick it, iv had some expense with lock picking and understand how they work on a basic level, this one looks very simple.

As you can see, the latch go's into the slot and a bit of steel comes up throw the slot on the latch hook.. locking it.
you can see in the photo the bit of brown metal in the slot, so I think its locked.

But seriously, That is most likely a lever lock. If you are not familiar with lever locks, you can look on the site. There are several good threads on how lever locks work, how picking them works, and how to make a key for them.
