My first post on the 101 forum, really glad I joined, I must say the work that has gone into these picks is fantastic, I have been a lockie for ten years and I am ashamed to say never made a pick in my life, some of these homebrews put my faithful old majestics to shame !

I needed to remove my 1965 Ford ignition cylinder as I can't find the key for it and am getting ready to order a new set of cylinders.
That led me to this site and to Schuyler Towne's youtube videos and then without a template created a pick and tension wrench.

It worked even though they are not the same length as the picks on templates.

Nice holder, bembel. Just make sure you don't use really strong magnets. Can you imagine trying to hold the tension wrench in a lock without dropping the pins while prying a pick off a movable pick holder that won't let go of the pick?

The picks can be removed very easily with just one hand. Even if it's aluminum, it weighs more than 250 grams (thanks to the solid ground plate).
Works fine for me. But as always, just take it as an idea. If you like it, use steel, wood or whatever comes to your mind.

This thread has me ready to go looking in my garage for my dremel and some steel.
Akin to a painter making making his own pigments with a mortar and pestle. Some of these picks are too nice to put in a lock. They belong in a frame on the wall.

Hopefully I did this right and images aren't to large. These are some picks and wrenches iv made I have a Peterson in there for comparison. The blue tiger striped picks I made for my son and we made the handles together everything below them he stole from me lol

Those are some very nice looking picks! What material did you use to make the picks and the handles? I guess I might as well show off some picks that I made too. Mine are made from wiper inserts. They fit into a handle that I made from some aluminum rod that I drilled and tapped a hole for a set screw so I can change out the picks when I need to.

Great picks man. I use a lot of wiper blades also the smaller ones I use only for short hooks and sand em down to .016-0.19. For the handles iv used sculpey, plasti dip, and now I'm making a stag handle set for someone. But I like small handles so I find a thin wrap and shrink tubing my fav. Ur set screw idea is great and while I was thinking on it I thought it would be great to have a threaded tightner on those rods, then an idea hit me right in the face. And it would be cool if I was the 1st to think of it but it's hard to come up with new stuff these days. An x-acto razor knife. I checked and it opens wide enough for wiper blades (may have to sand lightly) and all you would have to do is tap a hole in ur picks.

I had some scrap around so thought I would show you what I meant. Thanks man Iv pondered over making something like this and you're set screw idea set me on the path. Again great picks you can tell a lot of work went into them.

Thanks for the compliments on my picks. I put a lot of work into them so I appreciate it. After I had already made my handle I thought about using an x-acto knife handle but I don't own one so I didn't know if it would work. I'm glad to see that it does and I may have to pick one up to see how I like it. I can't take full credit for the handle and set screw idea though. Yeah I see 1st page on this thread someone said xacto knife I should have revisited the whole thread b4 I posted.But they are great for scoring a old pick to a blank also. I also saw a video of bills b4 with the same concept but I thought he used hollow tube can't recall either way great idea. Here is how I make my handles now it's quick and easy and I really like the feel and feedback I get. I wrap the handle with string. Wire would work to but this is cheap and easy. When I get to the back I use a lighter on a glue stick and lightly wipe enough to hold the back, then I burn any fringe. I picked up this shrink tubing at Northern tool 8 ft for $10 (a lot cheaper online) cut it slide it over and now I use my wife's hair dryer to shrink.
