You may have already done this but I just was not sure from rereading the first statement. After picking to assessory (left), you pushed a pin probe into the hole. While holding the spring loaded pin in, put more turning pressure on the plug, to the left. The plug should bind the pin probe. Maintain the turning pressure to the left while you pull the pin probe out. Then the plug should turn the rest of the way and come straight out.

It didn't sound as if you turned it past the assessory point.
