using li-ion pick gun tips

Postby noobsmith » 28 Jun 2014 22:07

Hi
My name is Jim and I have recently taking up lock picking as a hobby.
I managed to pick a few padlocks and 2 euro cylinders.
The technique I used was raking (using lock picks not gun) which I don't find to be skill it feels like the locks are no good or I got lucky and fluked it a few times.
Also pick gun isn't working as good as a manual picking with no gun.
What is the technique with the gun ?
Also with hand picking I seem to set the pins but cannot find the binding pin.
I have a ERA euro cylinder which i never managed to pick despite doing a lot of youtubing etc.
Help will be appreciated :-)

you are only picking locks as a hobby?
you think raking isnt really a skill?
but you are happy to spend out £175 on an electric pickgun?

the technique for the gun is practice .. Different angles, movement, tension, etc..

This sounds like you may need to do some more research/studying about technique ... YouTube is just a guide .. Practice is the answer
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

mseifert is right,
Practice is everything with a pick gun. Not only that, but if the pick get's even the slightest bit loose on the gun, whatever you are picking will Never open. I keep two picks guns ready in my toolbox because in the past I have had trouble with the pick coming loose, and having no idea that it was, I would be screwing around trying to pick open something, that will never open. Now after a few trys with the gun, I just grab the other one & tighten the pick when I get back to the shop, using a drop of purple (the weakest) locktite.

I use a manual pickgun, I tried an electric one 25 years ago but I never did get the hang of it.

weather you are picking a lock thru a "raking" technique..or single pin picking....it ALL come down to skill and practice...there is definitely some skill to raking. maybe not as much as SPP, but it still requires practice and practice and on some locks more practice.

As far as mechanical and electric powered picking guns...I have used them when time was not on my side...but in most instances a basic pick set and the right tension will do the trick just as fast. Plus you get to rely on your practice and skill and when the cylinder turns it is that much more gratifying for me when done manually...but that's just my personal preference....some times the guns just have to many working parts and i like to rely on my hands.

Practice Practice Practice and in the end you will get it. Picking to some is considered an art...and the skill is acquired thru time and effort!

Good Luck
