Trouble picking a Hampton lock

Postby WOOGIEB83 » 3 Jul 2014 7:10

Hello all, I am a novice lock picker. New found hobby I have to ease my mind and relax. I have picked several master locks. No.3 and No.5s. I am using locks that are readily available to me here and work and from my father that gave me a bucket full of locks that he used in the mines. I have moved on to this Hampton brass padlock that has spool pins. From what I can tell it has 5 pins. One of which is a standard pin in the number 2 position and the rest are spools. After I set number 2 and start working on the spools the standard pin keeps falling down. I just can't seem to get it. Anyone have some helpful advice on successfuly picking this lock. It has thwarted me.for 2 weeks now

That is normal .. Set the Standard pin and then work on the spools .. When the standard pops out go back and set it again when it is ready ... You may have to set it every time you set a spool
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

This is true. Some times pins drop back to reset and you'll have to push them back into place. It's definitely normal.
