Thinking of buying a Peterson case.

Hello All. Having amassed quite a few lockpicks over the years, I am looking for a case to carry them all in. Because i have had good experience with Peterson in the past, I am contemplating purchasing one of their cases, but am unsure as to whether it will fit my needs. Hopefully some wise lockpicker can help me out and answer some of my questions. My questions are in regards to the Leather cases listed at The Peterson website.

1. Do the Peterson cases actually fold, or are they more like the roll up lockpick cases that I have seen? I would prefer it to fold as i think this would allow it to fit more easily into a jeans pocket. After extensive searching online, i have yet to find a picture of a closed Peterson case; they were all open in order to reveal their contents. If anyone could provide me with a picture it would be much appreciated.

2. What is the method of closure on these cases? I assume that there is some sort of buckle or snap system, but I am not quite sure.

3. What are the dimensions of the various Peterson cases ( both open and closed)? I am looking for something that will fit into a pocket on my jeans but will hold my 16 Peterson lockpicks and my wrenches.

4. Is there a significant difference in the dimensions of the cowhide and calfskin cases when closed? I know the cowhide is thicker and thus would likely be more durable than the calfskin, but i am not sure how much thicker the resulting case would be when folded.

5. What case ( Peterson or any other brand that you have had good experience with) would you recommend for everyday carry?I would like to be able to carry all 16 of my picks along with a few torque wrenches, but it would be ideal for the case to be able to fit in a standard jeans pocket if possible.

I carry my picks with me everywhere and I have the Peterson cases. Love them, they fit in my back pocket easily. I prefer the bi-fold but the tri-fold is nice as well although it is way thicker and makes for a big lump in your back pocket. They are super durable. I have been carrying mine for years everyday and it is still in good shape. The are folding not rolling and fasten with good quality Velcro. Sorry, no pics or measurements, but I think they are great and totally worth the money.

I've got the tri-fold Peterson case and I love it! I requested the calf skin but received the full cow hide. I don't have anything to compare it to but it's sturdy and well build as many others have also mentioned.

I don't tend to walk around with it in my back pocket but don't really have any issues if I do. I've got 20+ picks and a handful of tension wrenches etc and folded up it's only 1.25" thick.

Thank you both for the replies, I am now leaning towards the bifold because it would be less thick in my pocket, but I am still not completely set on a particular one. I will post an update with my decision when I end up buying one. I am sure I will be quite content with any of the Peterson cases. Thanks again.

I dont personally have a Peterson case .. But I am told that one of the benefits is that they smell nice..

I have heard that as well, am looking forward to smelling a brand new Peterson case. I'm still not sure which one I will buy, but I will definitely be ordering within the next week.

If you are running all Peterson Picks, The Trifold can comfortably hold 20 Peterson picks+room to spare for small odds and ends. The bifold STUFFED can hold 20 Peterson Picks with very little to no room for anything else. The trifold has more room for tension tools and odds and ends so if you have Peterson picks and a variety of picks from other manufacturers you can put more in it since most other manufacturers don't usually have thick handles added to there picks. I own both of the styles mentioned and I usually prefer the bifold, It helps keep me from trying to cram every style of pick I own into one case to carry around plus the pick pockets in the bifold are a little bigger so the picks get held in place nicely but are easy to remove and put back in their pockets. The trifold on the other hand has a very form fitted (almost seems to small) space for the picks so sometimes it takes a decent amount of effort to free it from its pocket.

Thank you very much. That is exactly the kind of insightful answer I was hoping for. Do you know if your case is the full calfskin, or calfskin with cowhide exterior? I am currently running 16 Peterson picks, a two piece serepick Bogota titan set and a single hpc2000 series hook. I believe that I will buy one of the bifolds now, since I will be carrying it on me. I will probably end up purchasing a trifold later on, just to keep my other tools in at home. Thanks again for your help.

I purchased the full calf skin elite version. I don't have the professional version that has the cowhide exterior so I can't offer any advice on that option but I am happy with the elite version very soft and flexible and so far holding up well.

I just purchased the trifold today. Have one of the smaller snap closure type cases. Works fairly well but limited in size. And the tension wrenches can fall out. Don't like that part of it. Can't wait till the Peterson gets here.

I have the Peterson trifold and don't really like it. I LOVE this sparrows case. It zips closed and when you open it you can attach buttons to make it stand. It holds a lot more than what they show in the pic. If you are considering buying it I will take a pic of mine fully loaded.
