I'm thinking of replacing my old mechanical locks to an electronic lock. Do you think it is a good idea if I want something that is low maintenance and when it comes to glitches it can be easily solved and doesn't involved costly repair?

What exactly will the lock be used for? Is this for your home? Are we talking about deadbolts? By definition electronic means more glitches, problems, and more money to buy/fix. My opinion and some will not agree....I have used a electronic deadbolt going on a year and a half and other than needing to replace the batteries I have had no problems. Knock on wood it has not died on me yet. However, I have heard locksmiths and enthusiasts say that these electronic locks don't have a long life span and die just to be replaced by another lock. Give us some more Information about exactly what kind of lock and application you are looking for so we can give you the best information.

I gonna install new locks to my house. Both deadbolts and knobs. I'm 80% decided that I'm gonna use electronic locks, I want a keyless entry but when glitches happen and I have problems accessing using a code, I also want an emergency key to be used.
Access over phone would also be great, plus, if it would be possible I want the locks to be integrated wirelessly with the rest of security measures inside the house.
Any suggestions?

I do a few Internet access systems but we never use deadbolts. We use an electric lock (mortise, cylindrical, exit device, strike) tied into a logic controller.
Any lock that has an electric release can be made wireless, Internet ready, used with prox readers, biometric or pin pad.

Hi,
Are there electronic locks that are integrated to connect with other security devices installed inside the house? Like when someone forced open the electronic locks it will automatically send warning to other security devices (e.g. alarms and sensors) installed inside the house?

Not typically. Some commercial locks have sensors that will tell a system that the door isn't locked or latched (propped open).

Alarm/security systems usually have compatible magnetic switches that are used to detect door status. They are usually independent of the locking mechanism.

I installed a few Baldwin Z Wave deadbolts on a very expensive home here in Orlando but the alarm installer was in charge of the job. I just supplied and installed the locks and programmed the pass codes. http://i.imgur.com/V7PQtSd.jpg

Honestly, I don't have that much ideas about z waves and interfaces and I think I have to ask the help of a pro. Maybe a local locksmith.

I am planning to install a lock and security system with these basic things in my mind.
For the lock perspective
-an electronic deadbolt locks with keypads for keyless entry but can also be open using keys in times of emergencies. -locks are to be placed in the (front door, back door, master bedroom and windows)
For the alarm perspective
- motion detectors that are pet friendly - window detectors - glass breakage detector
Does anybody have some good suggestions?
