How do I disassemble this Defiant knob set?

Postby cheerIO » 17 Jul 2014 13:02

I have four doors in my shop that have these Defiant knob sets on them and I've never had the keys. Figured it was time I re-keyed them properly. I thought they would just be Kwiksets on the inside, but I have no idea how to get the plug out.

Does anyone have any tips or a manual? Thanks.

I'll tell you something exciting about the Defiant line. If you aren't careful and allow the cylinder to turn over while taking it from the handle, you could be in for quite a break, while you try to get it turned in the correct direction for removal. Definately will raise your blood pressure, if/when this happens. It is safer to only take the cylinder out while you have a key (any key) inserted into the keyway, to keep it from slip sliding away.

Thanks for the tip. And I know exactly what you are talking about. Learned it the hard way. Definitely going to insert a key next time.
