Tubular lock, slot machine, Terminator (part 1)

Postby imWACC0 » 16 Jul 2014 16:12

Standard disclaimer*

My aunt has two slot machines, of the same type, and has the keys chained to them. The problem is that one key slipped inside when closed. I'll be documenting this a lot better later, but right now I'm hoping that someone will know what I'm talking about.

The lock:
  • I don't have calipers, so am going by something that is well known. The body of a Bic pen dose not fit into it, but the cap of the Bic pen dose. So, bigger than an Ace
  • The key has two [I don't know what the bump on the key is called] on opposite sides, and will fit in ether way... this leads me to think (A) the pins on each side are the same, or (B) there are only pins on one side.
  • The key bow is large, looks like a SouthCo, but is not a SouthCo.

Ring any bells?

Does it look like this ..

If the lock is similar to this .. Just about any locksmith can use a Tubualr Lock pick on it .. Or you can SPP it yourself..
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

Not so much. The center has two notches in it and no ball barring.

Can't tell size, but if a Bic pen shaft fits into it (like the infamous Kryptonite) it is too small

SPP? Don't know that yet

Single Pin Pick? I had thought of that, but someone told me that as soon as one set of pins is moved to the next, you have to re-pick the lock.

Anyone tried it, is this true?

Yes that does happen. You will probably need to pick it more than once. There is a way around this if you can get the technique to work.

Or you can use a tubular pick on it. Which is epic when you finally get it open. Then you can decode and make a key for it. Or take the key code to a locksmith and get him to cut you a couple of keys which would even more epic.

Might I ask, where do you get (or make) the larger size? The one I'm working with had a larger diameter than an Ace

Sorry, I did not document it too well the first look over. And I don't remember.

There will be a part 2, with full pictures of everything.
