Lock Parts

Postby makrus2 » 22 Jul 2014 2:46

I'd like some parts for my Kwikset practice lock, but I'd rather not purchase large quantities. Can anyone offer suggestions of where I can buy miscellaneous top and bottom pins and/or springs instead of ~100 count bags of one type?

EDIT: This is a 5-pin lock, so quantities as small as 5 of each would be excellent. The real issue here is price, however, not necessarily quantity. I would rather not spend more than $5-10.

I have not seen top/bottom pins individually (or in such small quantities) sold online. Probably because the pins are so cheap there's no money to be made selling them in such low quantities. I'd say if your looking for just a few pins your best bet would be to visit a local locksmith. They will have the pins on hand and there will be no shipping charge. They may even just give you the pins free of charge :D Although you may not want to advertise up front that you need them to practice lock picking.

Not sure where you are in the world but some of the local big hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart) will carry these ..

Or the locksmith is a good option .. I have walked in to several and asked just for pins .. It you ask for a re-key it will cost more.. I think the last time I asked for 5ea Driver Spools and Serrated, springs.. Charged me $5.
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

This is true. That is a really good recommendation going to the hardware store if you have one nearby. They also wont ask any questions where as a locksmith might.
