Cole 3KCC

Postby Sheriff66 » 29 Jul 2014 14:13

I just bought a Cole 3kCC and 500 blanks to play around with. I've since found that Cole has folded and parts are hard to come by. However, I think I need a new cutting wheel as it rolls the cuts instead of cutting them off. In addition, when I line the keys up using the fence, the key that touches the cutting wheel is about 1/8 off. Is this normal? How can I adjust it?

Many thanks!

Cole is long gone. I have a 3K and had the wheel sharpened by Gil-Ray tools.
Mine uses the X23MC wheel.

So, yours uses this wheel here right?

Can you comment on the 1/8" spacing I have?

Thanks!

It sounds like a combination of a worn cutter wheel and being out of adjustment...

it is possible to re-adjust the tracer stylus alignment with the cutter wheel, but you need to make sure that if you replace the cutter wheel with a new one that it and the tracer both have the same shape...

Evan,

Can you explain how to adjust? I am a novice hobbiest! I wouldn't mind replacing the guide as well as it looks a little rounded. I've noticed that the keys cut more rounded and not with a sharp point on the ridges. But, I guess that could be the blade as well.

Evan,

I also tried emailing you a few days ago. I'm not sure if your email changed but if you didn't get my email can you send me one. I'd like to send you a few pictures and pick your brain.

Thanks!

Correct, though mine has the original Cole wheel.

Hawley Lock has these cutters, but I bought a brand new one last month off e-bay for under $20
