Confused! [Abloy cam lock on bus stop advert]

Postby quinnlookin » 17 Apr 2014 17:14

Hello all, new guy here with a problem on my hands!
I recently acquired a broken bus stop ad space that has been collecting dust in my neighbors garage for a year or so. I am a graphic design major at University of San Francisco. I need help figuring out what type of lock is on the opening of this ad space! I could easily take a crowbar and bust it open but I dont want to damage it because I plan on re painting it and putting a piece of art in it. Attached is a picture of the key hole. Any suggestions on how to get this bad boy or recommendations of a certain lock pick set/gun would be greatly appreciated!

That is an ABLOY classic cam lock. Unless you are decent with disc detainer locks, you are going to have a hard time picking that lock open.

Super difficult lock is super difficult, and no beginner on earth could open it. heck, most of us here who can pick 90% of the locks made still can't open an Abloy, no matter what flavor or generation it is. There is no pick set you could buy for it, it requires custom made tools and a few years experience as a hobby picker or a locksmith to know how to go about opening it.

Bring this advertizing thing to a locksmith shop to have it drilled out by someone who knows how.

This may be a good place for your old meme on what Abloy is Finnish for, Squelchtone. ;)

Credit goes to Squelchtone for working making it, and Riyame for storing it. :)

Abloy is a lock that your not going to pick. When they came into our shop we would destroy the lock and replace it. The only time we would go to the extent of making a key for it was if it was a Key Alike group of locks. Then we would take a special drilling tool just made for it that would just grind off the face. Then we would take the wafers out and very carefully make a key that would fit the other locks.

If a container is made well. i.e.; corners real tight and flush, no visible hinges for prying, container made of go steel. you will have a hard time prying. Also most of the time cam locks are used in hight traffic areas where people can not take the time to pry it open, and last but not least as a locksmith you do your best to keep everything as in best condition you can.
