More Falcon seven pins collected.

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

More Falcon seven pins collected.

Postby cheerIO » 30 Jul 2014 18:55

Had a good day today. Picked 4 out of the five on the right in the picture. My friend got the other one. Three of the shackles were painted shut and I had to smack them with a hammer to free the shackles.

The lock on the left is the one I got last time. I rekeyed it to a Titan key by grinding back the stop on the neck.

These are really nice brass locks but I haven't been able to find much info on them. If any one knows their history please let me know.

Also, any tips for cleaning the paint off them so as not to ruin the brass? I may just keep them the way they are on the outside and clean them up internally.

5 out of the six should be master-keyed to the same system. So I'm going to try to measure the pins and make my own little three tiered system.

Think the best way to get the paint off is to kiss them goodbye and send them to me! ;)

Very sweet. Roughly used, but cleaned up internally they should be fine. You might want to try WD-40 and a terrycloth towel, with a liberal application of elbow grease.

Since you clearly can disassemble them, you may try paint thinner. Do so in a well ventilated area and no smoking.

Falcon is still around, they are part of Allegion.
I have a Falcon SFIC padlock that is in the process of being picked.
The ones you have would be considered a removable cylinder. Reminds me very much of the Abus 83/45.

Well, that paint does clean off! Could not tell without trying, as different paints require different solvents.

Tried something out at work, and it takes that paint off and leaves the tarnish/patina alone.

Despite what it looks like, yes the lock is seven pins. Just so happens that the seventh pin rides up the ramp of the key and sits perfectly at the shear line. :D

So thank you again for the trade, CheerIO. And now you know what will take that particular paint off without damaging the lock! Put it onto a rag and use the rag to clean off the paint. Does not take long, either!

Wow!!!

That is awesome. Thanks for the tip and the trade.

Great looking key.

I just looked up the MSDS of that stuff. Seems to be mostly Naptha. I have some pure here at the shop I'll give it a try.
