Have any Australians had any trouble ordering for sparrowslockpicks.com?

Also is the competitor a good quality set that will last a few years without the hooks bending or snapping?

Can't say about troubles ordering from Oz, but as for hooks bending or breaking - lighten up your tension!!!

Well the only picks ive had were southord slimline or something (cheapest set i found) and the hook does bend

I heard a very interesting anecdote while I was at Defcon about shipping lock picking things to Australia. A man ordered from one of the vendors we are all familiar with, and for 2 months he did not receive his items. He asked the Australian post office for help, and he asked the vendor to track it in the USA.

It turns out that the order was being held in Australian Customs, but not because there were lock picks. It was because instructional manuals such as lock picking books are not allowed to be imported or something along those lines. The picks would have been delivered on time if it wasn't for a book on lock picking that was holding everything up.

I don't know if that is exactly what happened, I ordered 2 sets of picks from southord, a "pagoda set" and a 14 piece metal handle set and they sent me 2 copies of " Easy Pickings " with the picks, which I received about 10 days after placing the order. So I dunno if it was because of the manuals.

Thanks for the input guys. Im now thinking of getting the 14 piece set from peterson along with a bogie as a want a kit that will last me years. Has anyone experienced any difficulties ordering from www.thinkpeterson.com (especially from Australia) and also is it worth getting the rubber handles or just going for plasic?

I used to prefer the rubber handles, but I have grown to like the plastic handles a bit more now. Not sure why... I still have my 20 piece rubber handle set I started out with and still use it now and again, but I have put together a custom set that is all plastic handle picks that is my go-to kit. Still, any Peterson pick is great! I don't live in Australia, but I have never had any problems ordering from thinkpeterson. They forgot to put an item in my order and I sent an email explaining that it was missing, never heard back, but two days later the missing pieces showed up. That was an isolated occurrence; I have ordered from them many many times with no other problems at all.

I've placed numerous orders through thinkpeterson.com, and I've never had a problem, but I don't know about Australia. It wouldn't hurt to ask them about any issues related to shipping to Australia before ordering.

As far as rubber vs. plastic: I've ordered both, and I definitely prefer the plastic. I think I read someplace that rubber works better in cold climates where one might find himself picking a lock while wearing gloves.

It depends on how heavy handed you are .
The Petersons should last, but I have had a set of Dinos and
southords last for 10 years
or more without bending or breaking either.
It just depends.

Sorry for being so undecided but im now thinking the competitor from sparrows as it is cheaper than the peterson kit plus shipping is $10 rather than $32. Also my hook out of my southord slimline set just broke so I might get a hookers set as well in case any of these break (not that I expect them to). Any thoughts?

In case anyone is interested, I ordered the wizwazzle set from sparrows on the 19th of August and it arrived today (4th of September) which is about average shipping time to Australia. The set is great, with good quality picks and a lot of tension wrenches. Something worth noting though is that i did not get the double peak Bogota style rake (wasn't very interested in that one anyway) but there was a note apologising for not having the pick and that it I should get it in a few weeks but also that they put in an extra pick (not a duplicate of any other pick). They did not say which pick it was but from looking at the site and the picks I received, I think it is a hooked diamond.

Overall, great experience with Sparrows and I do plan on using them again.

I ordered from sparrows they shipped within four or five days canada to southern Wisconsin they have decent picks but they have a really nice tension wrench set in the wizwazzle set.The picks have a fairly decent finish but they really do need a fine sanding or a whetsone as most all new pick sets do from what i hear.I will be comparing them to a Peterson set pretty soon.

I've ordered multiple times from sparrows with 2-3 days to arrive( Canada to Michigan). Once they doubled my order which was a set of bypass drivers for certain padlocks. I emailed them to let them know of their mistake and asked if they'd like me to send them back. They said they were in the process of updating their shipping software and to just keep the extra set which was $40. Their products seem high quality and I've been enjoying them. Not to mention they have pretty competitive prices and things I haven't seen anywhere else. I'll definitely be ordering more from them
