Falcon Padlock Blues

Postby Hachronn » 23 Aug 2014 18:08

I was sitting in my mother's living room when I rememembered that about 30, or 45, years ago I somehow managed to wander home with what may have been a school padlock that someone may have left unlocked.

On a whim, I walked out to the garage, and low and behold, there was what may have been a school district Falcon padlock sitting on one of the studs that made up the garage's unfinished interior wall. If I had to guess, I'd say that the lock is at least forty to fifty years old. After all, it couldn't have been new when I found it.

The lock was unlocked. I sprayed it liberally with WD40' took it home, and went to work. So far the lock is kicking my ass.

Very light tension and it will rake open in seconds.

Also, make sure that you are getting all the way back in the plug.

There are six or seven pins in there.

You called it. Much to my embarrassment, it looks like I kept missing pin seven.

Now you just need to pick it to control!

LOL. That might take a while. First you have to pick it to operating, then use a hook to pick the core retaining pin, and voila... control! ;)

I usually use a small screwdriver to get mine to control. :D

I stand corrected - thought it was the same as the one I got from CheerIO. OK, now pick it to control!

Thanks, Jeff

I'm working on getting it to control, but so far I'm not having any luck. Any tips?

Here is a great site on the basics of SFIC if you have never encountered them before http://www.crypto.com/photos/misc/sfic/

Thanks Joe. I'd seen Peterson's I-Core tools, but I missed their actual purpose until I saw them explained on that site. So unless I manipulate the control sleeve I'm really just playing a count the bind (And pray I don't over lift) guessing game.
