Help! Replacing a cylinder ...

Well thank you to everyone at this forum! I was able to swap out the old cylinder with almost zero difficulty. Things are working perfectly. The whole process (taking apart the door armor, removing the cylinder, the walk to the locksmith, installing it) took about an hour and a half. You guys saved me about $100!

In regards to the make and model... I didn't ask him if it was repinned . I was literally installing it while you were typing your post. Is there a way to tell? What are the disadvantages of a repinned cylinder?

It's definitely not an M3. There is no M3 logo on the cylinder. It just has a "UL" with a "518" on top of it. There is a sticker on the side of the box with the part/model number. I could post a picture of that if you like.

The UL 51S stamp is an Underwriters Labs number assigned to Medeco cylinder and if there are no other stamps, it tells me that yours is *most likely* a Medeco Classic Air 00 keyway. Your model on the box should be 10-0200. The keyway shape should be just like your old lock. I think you did just fine. If they lock had been repinned, it may have been old stock, used, pulled from another job, and it's always nice to buy brand new, but sometimes like new stuff from another job, can have the pins and springs dumped out, pinned up to a new set of keys and sold to someone as new for $90 when it should be sold as a used lock for less.

You know, I've always wanted to learn how to pick a lot. My dad wouldn't let me buy lockpicks when I was a kid for fear I'd turn to a life of crime... but sure, I'd love to learn how. I can't promise I have a ton of time to commit to the craft, but perhaps I could learn something simple like how to pick a cheap padlock.

Cheap padlocks are a gateway drug. They provide the slippery slope via we get you hooked on the hard stuff.

If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.
