How do you get the tension wrench in the right place?

Postby Cman22 » 28 Oct 2004 15:08

THIS IS ALL ON A QUICKSET DEADBOLT

Hey, I have 3 tension wrenches, 1 is a bigger twist flex one, one is a bigger normal one and one is a smaller one that fits in the bottom of the key way.

I can easily position the smaller tension wrench in my practice locks when they're in the vice but i can't seem to find the right place to put it in on my doors deadbolt. The doorknob and wood next to the door keep getting in the way.

I can fit the larger wrenches in but whenever i start picking they slide into the "pick zone" and the pick sticks to them. I could insert them succesfully if the wood wasn't to the left side of the door.

Is there any way to insert the tension wrench that will work? Also, if i can get pictures of the situation i will post them asap.

Thanks,
Cman

Either pick in the opposite direction and use a plug spinner, or more economically, make yourself a homemade tension wrench that's short....OR perhaps try a circular tension tool.

You might also try placing the turning tool at the top of the keyway. Isn't it fun to try picking a lock off the bench? :)

I am pretty new to the hobby myself, but I believe that the wishbone wrenches give you more room in the keyway and grip the lock on the top and bottom. I think if your having clearance problems due to the door jam it might not help much. Some are made so the pick can go 'through' the wrench though and that might work.

I agree with what an earlier poster said, try the top of the lock, pick backwards, or custom bend one of your torsion wrenches to clear the keyway with it in the bottom position pointing up like L instead of 7
