Pin Sizes

Postby ihaveissues » 9 Sep 2014 15:21

Hi all
Being new to dissecting locks/cylinders I wondered are all the pins in a lock the same diameter ie, will Yale pins fit a Union Cylinder. May seem a silly question but no tools to measure as they are so small. I know obviously they are different lengths. thinking about experiment with rep inning some cylinders and then trying to pick so they will be different every time? :)

Most lock cylinders do use the same .115" pins, there are universal pinning kits that contain almost every size pin, in height anyhow. Mixing around the pins in the locks you are picking should definately change your lock picking experience

Thanks Billdeserthills for your reply, understood and thanks, now I may purchase a small pinning kit. I was a bit doubtful to post that question as didn't want to seem a fool for not knowing. Ta. :D

Not at all, it is a very valid question and many locks use other sizes of pins in them
