Advice on picking this lock

My sister bought a desk with a lock on it at a garage sale, but it has no key. Any advice on opening this thing. I live about an hour from her, so I haven't looked at it in person yet. Hoping to find out what I need to take with me to pick it.

My guess would be that is is a warded lock (based on the internal pin).. you should be able to reach in and turn the mech similar to a pair of handcuffs.. Also most furniture has standardized keys
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

the key you need is called a 'drill' key.and it does operate in the same manner as mseifert stated.the working end of the key has a hole drilled into it to accommodate the stump (pivot point) in the keyway.

I opened it pretty quickly. As you said many locks like this have fairly standard keys. I was able to purchase a key that was VERY close and reshape areas with my dremel tool, works great now. Consider this thread closed.
