Recommendation for residential front door. <$100.00

I have a friend that is worried about the security of her front door. They have a kwikset deadbolt and knob. She has seen how easily I can open regular residential stuff and wants to change out her locks.

She does not mind carrying an extra key, so I have decided it is ok just to change out the deadbolt and leave the rest alone.

Without going really pricey with a medeco, bi-lock, multi-lock. Is there something else I can suggest? They are concerned about bumping so I was wondering if there is a semi-uncommon keyway that is available in residential grades? Can I switch out the cylinder of the lock to an uncommon one using the same residential hardware that is there?

I have this Schlage B460 that I was thinking of giving her. My thoughts are, it's kind of hard to pick and any common thief is just going to try a bump with an SC1 and then leave not knowing it is a 6 pin. I guess I just have to find a shorter bolt for it.

Any suggestions?

You could get a good deadbolt and add a restricted keyway cylinder for under $100 or real close. If you can't obtain a blank then a bump key can't be used. Ask a local locksmith if they offer any restricted keyways. You should be able to pick up a cylinder for @ $35 and keys @ $5 - $7.50 each.

Arrow D61 would be a good but economical choice.

Don't forget the lock is only part of the security equation. Hinge pins, strike plates, screws, correct installation etc. all work in concert with the lock.

Mul-T-Lock offers a Grade 2 deadbolt with their Cronus line. It's a UL437 listed cylinder. You can find it online sub $100; ditto from an authorized dealer. It's probably best to buy local, however, from an authorized dealer in case she needs keys in the future (less hassle, more convenience).

Guys on here and keypicking site are always selling medeco & other high security lock cyl inserts, you could easily pop one into your B460 and have a high sec lock for less $$

I'm thinking the B-460 is fine as is. Thieves usually use hammers and crowbars. Even the appearance of a good strong lock is enough to chase 'em off.
