Loose plug on master lock #5

Hey all,

I got my first lockpicks recently, and a Master padlock #5 to practice on. It seems fairly normal, but the plug can shift a few mm, and seems loose. This also means that stopping applying pressure to the tension wrench doesn't make all the pins unset, I need to turn the plug the other direction to unset all the pin stacks. I was wondering if this is typical of cheaper padlocks, or if that's just this lock...

sounds like a Master #5 that's in my bag also, so I vote for typical.

It may be typical of cheap padlocks, but it does make it harder to pick open the lock, so I consider it something of a security feature

lock quality in relation to security is so strange. as you've said there are locks so cheap with tolerances so bad that it makes nde difficult, then again you have super high quality locks with tolerances so tight that it makes attacks like bumping easier.
