Just finished reading these articles; very well put together & helpful. I especially like the article on raking, for which the author created a computer model (I wish my students would have put that kind of effort into their work when I taught, instant A...). Though I've heard the term before, & had a pretty good notion of what it entailed, it was nice to have it quantified in type. Being a beginner, I'm actually trying to avoid raking until I develop some skill, as I don't want to establish in myself any kind of false confidence...terrific intro for someone in my position. Thank you!

So you're the amazing king, eh? I was just perusing your cryptography section the other day, some awesome stuff on that site of yours! Keep it up, Cheers! Jakoblivion
Do not try to pick the spool, that would be impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth: There is no spool. Then you'll see that it is not the spool that's picked, it is only yourself.

Just read the article about how and why locks work. Plus SPP. I have read a number tutorials and I have to say this is by far the best one. One of the things that I do is go back to fundamentals when I am having problems. Most of the time I have slipped into a bad habit. When I ease up and slow down most of the time it works out. Thanks very much for the article. It was excellent. Jon

you know i do a lot of lock picking because we do lockouts here in colorado springs area and i find it so much more faster and more helpful to do both methods and thats to run a rake in my locks first to set a few pins then come back with a hook to finish it off this is also a tecnique used in speed picking any way it never lets me down and is most helpful if i in-counter a lock full of security pins

lock raking and scrubbing are great ways to get a job done fast but when i started out i made darn sure to teach myself spp first before i tried anything else and im glad i did because even though it may be faster if all else fails i still know that lock is coming open and when all else fails i only need two tools!

this is a very, very good post and description... thank you, and i wish i would have found this sight a long time ago.. i bought a kit from sparrows lock picks called night school. the kit was a hundred bucks or so but it came with 3 cut away locks... smooth 5 pin, serrated 5 pin, and spool 5 pin.. all cut away so you can see what your screwing up lol.. it is truly an awesome learning tool

Nice guide, thanks. Lot of interesting things on your site. Any chance you'll go into detail about Key Casting or picking tubular locks?
