Change key works but not master key?

Postby reyhan12 » 7 Nov 2014 1:48

Hi,

I moved out of my apartment a month ago. Just today, I got a notice from the landlord saying that I changed the locks to the front door because the master key no longer works. I didn't change the lock but I did forget my keys a few months back and had a locksmith pick the lock.

What I'd like to know is if it is possible that the locksmith may have caused the master key to no longer work but the change key still works?

Thanks!

It is possible when picking a lock and rotating it without a key in the keyway, that a thin master "wafer" can fall out of the bible into the keyway. This could lead to one key still working and disabling another.

I have had this happen on practice locks.

I would spray the lock with some lubricant and let the landlord try his key again. It's his lock, I wouldn't let him charge you for his masterkey not working--Your key works fine, right?
