2 safes bought at auction

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

2 safes bought at auction

Hi
I'm new to the forum (hello...thumbs up)
I would like to ask a couple of questions, I have just started up a restoration business in my spare time in Sydney Australia.
See link: https://www.facebook.com/retrorestorations84
While at auction I came across 2 safes both without keys and combination code.
I brought 1 for restoration and the other for personal use.
see photos in link:

What would be the best way to get into them without to much damage?
thanks gaz

I would say, cut them open from the back, that way when you sell them nobody will see the damage
Wow You must be brave to just start-up a restoration biz without any knowledge of how to begin.
Makes me wanna break some stuff too, but I wanna get paid for it

From the facebook page, it looks like he can restore stuff pretty decently. Just that he may have barked up the wrong tree with trying to hop into safes :P

I don't know how much the safes are worth, the one with the key lock & dial looks like an import safe. Import safes such as it are normally just fireproof anyhow and not
any kind of serious security. I honestly think the cheapest way in would be to order a key and a combo from the factory that made the safe, but that order will likely need
to come from a locksmith registered with the factory.

The combination safe got thrown into the deal for an extra $20 so not really interested in that one at the moment just grabbed it and thought it wouldn't go a miss in the workshop.
It's the older one I'm interested in as I think it could make a great little project in my spare time.
Somebody told me with that lock system I could make blank keys up use to make score marks into to make a template key up (he said something about using a candle to get the pattern in the coke mark????)
I do have a lot of tools that could help. Lath, die grinder, fibre optic bore camera ect ect as I do alot of fabrication work with my full time job
Cheers gaz

That somebody is talking about "smoking" a key blank and filing off the unneeded parts, until you have a working key, you'll need a couple of key blanks,
as I doubt a first timer will get lucky enough to have his first key work. Plenty of info on here about smoking a key, interesting looking older safe. You may wanna
call a lock smith and check their price to fit a first key, before you learn a new profession.
