Found an old ilco key duplicator

I picked this up at an antique/junk store over the weekend for cheap. I have already taken it apart and cleaned all of the rust/dirt off of it. It runs very quietly and smoothly after rewiring, some oiling, and adjusting the belt tension. Now I just have to find something to try it out on

Just be sure not to try it out on steel blanks!

You will also want to check the calibration to be sure of the accuracy of your copied keys. Have fun with it!

That machine is an old favorite of mine, the milling cutter really goes through the blanks.

Great find! You may want to lube the slide support rod with either graphite or dry teflon spray. That there's a money maker!

Oh man, I'm jealous. I love taking old dirty equipment and refurbish it. A little cleaning and lubing goes a long way. Would love to find one like that. Jon

That looks like an Ilco Unican 025 Manual. I recently restored one I found in my shop too!

Mine also came with the plastic (lexan? bakelite?) case that I believe originally came with it.

Make sure you put oil in all the oil ports on either side of the motor, and grease the sliding rails through the appropriate ports.

Nice find! a little cleaning and a quick powder coating would make it look great... I really need to do that to my little one, I powder coat a lot of things, even lead boolits I cast myself

as far as oil, I'd use the 3 in 1 MOTOR oil, in the blue/white container, Lowes has it, sure the other big box stores do too. I've read on forums dealing with motors that the regular (red can) 3 in 1 has detergents and other stuff that will ruin a motor. Some can take regular SAE 30 non detergent (like you'd use in small engines)
If there's a manufacturer reccomendation, go with that. The 3 in 1 motor oil is sae 20, so I'd say any other brand of NON DETERGENT SAE 20 would work well too.

As far as the other moving parts, the dry teflon would be a good choice, as someone else mentioned
