How do i figure the combo on my realtor lockbox?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

How do i figure the combo on my realtor lockbox?

Postby Wolfess » 11 Dec 2014 21:58

I been needing to reuse an old knobset but it has the key lockbox with the keys still in it and I can't remember the combo from years ago. Is there anyway I can get into it again or will I have to bust it?

Where others see a challenge, we see an opportunity to sit on the couch drinking heavily and spinning the dials until that lock opens.

People are creatures of habit and like easy to remember numbers, so I'd recommend trying famous dates that may be meaningful to you (1492, 1602, 1812, 1776, 1911, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1984, I recommend going through 1900-2014 and trying everyone) or patterns such as 0000, 1111, 1234, 4321. The street address of where that box was last used is also a common combination scheme.

I don' think there's any *weird old trick* to popping that open, so settle in and make a fun afternoon of it.

Let us know what the combo ends up being,

You could of course try to press the button and simultanously move the digit wheels. Maby you can feel something strange at certain numbers. On lot of - but not all - number padlocks this can be used to deduce the numbers

Folks, just a friendly reminder: please do not get into bypass techniques or discussion or instruction on specialty tools in the public forum. See forum rule #19 in the FAQ area. At this point, we can offer general advice such as trying out combinations, but bypass techniques, feeling for wheel gates, or drilling still qualify as Advanced Topics. We may relax the rules on this in the future, but too often a combination lock posts turns from helpful to straight up bypass or destructive entry and I can't watch every post 24/7.

Thanks,
Squelchtone

So the combo ended up being 9737. Though it turned out being insecure because I opened it pretty easy without the pin and looked at the mechanism while resetting it. I'll just use this for interesting geocache later I guess.
