Unknown Safe, Combination known - Key needed?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Unknown Safe, Combination known - Key needed?

Postby palaris » 4 Jan 2015 5:00

Good morning,

my father passed away one week ago. Going through his belongings I've found the code for a safe (photo http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=p226a&s=8#.VKkOZXtXv-t) I knew he had. This code is written on a paper like this:

no1x4xR, no2x3xL, no3x2xR, no4x1xL.

I have been trying to use these codes, but it seems I am doing something wrong, because I cannot open it. My way of doing it:

turn the dial to the right, pass no1 three times, stop at no1
then turn left-pass no2 two times, stop at no2
turn right, pass no3 one time - stop at no3
turn left and stop directly at no4.

Nothing happens and I am sure the combination is right...

I am kindly asking for your help....Am I doing something wrong? Do I need maybe also a key for this safe, the number combination is not enough?

Very grateful for any suggestion and many thanks!

Hello. Happy new year.
Most 4 dial combination dI also thus :
Turn dial 4 xs left then to number, 3 xs right to number, 2 xs left to number, 1 xs right to number,
Then turn dial left until stops. Then safe should open. ......
hope this helps

Happy new year and thank you for your answer....

When you say "4xs to the number", it means I have the pass the number or the "0" ? Since on my paper it says first "R", do I follow your steps starting to the right?

I was thinking, since the safe has no handle to be turned, also a key will be necessary to open it...Or the door will simply "pop-up"?

Thanks!

okay did some quick researchcombination pattern is as follows. ....
1. Insert key into lock.
2. Turn dial 4 times to RIGHT stop on number
3. Turn dial 3 times to LEFT stop on number
4. Turn dial 2 times to RIGHT stop on number
5. Turn dial 1 times to LEFT stop on number
A. Turn key to open
B. Turn dial RIGHT past 0 until stops, turn key to open.
(A or B) : Two different ways to utilize key option.
Hope this helps ......

Is what you typed on the opening post actually what was written? If so, it looks like that is just dialing directions, not the actual combo.

Hi, I replaced the real 4 numbers with "no1", "no2", "no3", no4" ..... So the combo shall be right.

Good. Just wanted to be clear. :)

Yes, fairly sure a key is needed. Once the combo is dialed, the key is used like a handle to move the boltwork. It also, while moving the boltwork will move the fence into the disc pack - a direct entry fence.

Dial combo then turn key to open the door.
