Thinking about going Primus instead of Medeco, any suggestions where to get a good deal?

Have you opened an account with US Lock? You can call them at (800)925-5000 They Really want your business
I'm sure Boyle & Chase has them, they usually are cheaper (800)325-2530
Top Notch they'll really give it to you $$ wise (800) 722-4210

I just won one off of Ebay ($23.50) that was keyed by a locksmith and there was a second one for $25 I was going to grab if I lost the bid. Seems to be some from time to time and it may be worth keeping an eye out for.

My worry would be finding the keys, maybe it isn't a big deal.

Are you looking for large quantities so you can resell to customers or is this to put a deadbolt or two on your own house/apartment?

Allegion controls the prices. Unless you are buying large numbers you are at best going to get 50% + 5% even then you will have to buy a lot of other stock from the same supplier. You buy it for what they want and add your customary mark up.

I rarely pay freight for safes. We do get a slight break on Schlage through Anixter but we are spending a couple of hundred thousand with them year in year out. I also never pay shipping from Anixter because we save them a lot by often using Will Call. If you can point Victory to someone selling for less than 50% + 5% please let us know. I don't know Victory but I sense he is a one man operation and probably not in a position to buy a lot at one time, so the price breaks tend to go accordingly.

I stopped dealing with US Lock, too many incorrect orders or often they would substitute a similar brand. When I order something I don't expect substitutions.

Primus offers distributor sidebars that require no buy in but you will have to purchase them all from the same distributor. This is a Level 1 system. The bad thing is any other locksmith that purchases from the same distributor can purchase keys and cylinders with the same sidebar.

Level 1+ is the level that requires you to "Buy In" to the program at $1,000 worth of blanks, cylinders and sidebar finger pin kit.

It's been years since I bought in but I think it equates to about 10-12 cylinders, 100 blanks and the finger pin kit.

I can understand the frustration of dealing with US Lock, they do often times show an item in the catalog and can't ever seem to ship it, or they will try to do a multiple warehouse shipment with lots of added freight. As far as the unauthorized substitutions go, they will many times just tell me to "Keep It" which is hard for me to argue with, as I love free inventory, even if I didn't order it. I do many times have the extra time needed to keep bugging them until the freight charges are low enough to appeal to me. I had been telling them No for months, until I ordered a bunch of key blanks from HL Flake, that was when I discovered how they make up for the free freight program they have going!

Yes, I think you are pretty close on your "buy in", it was very reasonable I do remember that.

I've been using HL flake (they might be smaller and more local) for a few years now, they great. They carry CX5 (std pins with security worm sidebar) if you are interested, it's not as popular but very similar to primus.
