If in New Zealand pin tumbler locks are being used (and not lever locks like in the UK for example), almost any picking set should be usable by you.
Pin tumbler locks are not so different in different countries. The primary technical parameters as plug diameter, pin diameter is roughly the same in every country and you will find everywhere thousands of different keyways anyway. Some of them are to hard to pick for a beginner, some of them are easy.
There should be also some threads around in this forums, which pickset is ideal. For example, this one:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39809You should not think too much of the picks as beginner. I have bought a cheap pick set from amazon a few years ago, which I still use today. This picks are fairly thick (0.7mm). But beginners are not able to break them. I have found in the meantime, that it is more the lack of experience, than the picks, if a specific lock doesn't open.
Only good high security locks with extreme paracentric and or thin keyways cannot be opened by the too thick beginners lockpick.
