Unlock an Axa lock

Postby caputkid » 18 Jan 2015 19:52

Hi

I recently purchased a virtually unused Gazelle bike at an unpaid storage auction here St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. Unfortunately it is locked with an Axa lock and there were no keys. I researched Axa locks on the internet and found that one of your members ,theSkyer, had the same problem with an Axa lock and was able to create a key through impressioning. Maybe this is beyond me. My google search also brought up the blank key problem with certain Axa locks. Perhaps this would work on my lock? Or perhaps it's too old; I think the bike and lock are from around 2003 based on magazines I bought at the same auction. I'm including a dropbox link with pictures of the lock and serial numbers. Also at the same link I've included the bill of sale verifying it was a legitimate purchase. Perhaps someone could indicate if the blank key solution would work and where I could purchase one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

drop box is asking for a login to view the pics.. can you put them on imgur or change permissions to Public on those pics?

Hi Squelchtone, bioggy

I tried to change permissions on dropbox but can't figure out how to give public access. Never had a problem sending and opening a dropbox link before. I've added more pictures to the link showing better views of the lock and of the keyway. I've uploaded the same photos to imgur. New to imgur hopefully these are not too big. Small was really small.
Here's a new dropbox link. Maybe cut and paste into your url bar.

I did see that video but the lock in the video has cutouts on the arms though is the same shape but different colour. the model in the video is an xl7 whereas mine is an xl9. I believe the key problem affected both models but for a narrow production time period. Don't know if the keyway can be called x shaped.

I cannot help much with this lock, as I am not familiar with it's internal workings beyond watching Barry Wels TOOOL videos from a few years ago.

Hopefully someone here can get you on the right track to getting a blank or key. Have you tried contacting Axa with the serial number and photos? (btw, you may need to take some not so close up and during the day photos so they can see the entire bike sitting in your living room, just a suggestion if you contact them)

plan b is to cut the lock off but, we dont discuss destructive entry here as there's too many bored teenagers and bad guys out there looking for how-to info.

good luck,

Well you can get a blank key to try out the methods in the video, I can't see the keyway clearly enough but check it with the pattern on the key and try using the method shown in the video to open it.

If you think it fits you can search one on ebay or somewhere else or I will pm you a place to get one from.

There are a few other keys that belong to their product but the keyways are a smidge different.

Hi bioggy

I took a closer look at the keyway and it does look similar to the pattern above the key number. I'm going to see if I can find the key blank and try the method in the video. I did find the same photo in the SKS online
catalog but I haven't done much of a search yet. I may contact AXa as squelchtone has suggested. Thanks for your help.

Hi Squelchtone

Thanks for editing my photos. I couldn't find where to reduce the size of the picture in imgur. Never thought to contact Axa directly. Funny I did contact the Gazelle bike company thinking this was a proprietary lock however they directed me to a company that makes replacement keys. They in turn replied that I needed the number off the key to make a duplicate key. So I was back to square one. I'll see if Axa will help me if not I will try getting a blank key.

Thanks for your help.
