Crazy idea for self destructing lock

Postby -m m- » 22 Jan 2015 11:39

Imagine a lock which either:
(a) has to be pushed back to turn, and if pushed too far back, releases a powerful acid which dissolves key parts of the lock, rendering it impossible to open except from the inside,
Or (b) if the pins, when pushed up too far, did the same. This would make any type of picking almost impossible.
Or both.

Don't stick a metal pick in an electrified lock. And if you don't know if it's electrified or not, it's a big hint if the doorstep happens to be a metal plate.

A booby-trapped lock using acid, in the United States at least, would be a quick trip to prison, let alone the lawsuit.

Might as well make it explode, I'm gonna just drill it off otherwise

Well if it's going to be illegal anyways, how about making the plug into a projectile. Stick a pick in, get a piece if metal embedded in your body.

The anarchist in me loves it, I'd modify an innocent looking Kwikset lock, nobody would suspect a cheap, junky kwikset

Honestly though I think I prefer just having the welcome mat the victim is standing on, open up & drop said victim into a nest of pungi sticks coated with feces
I guess it would be tough to get them out & the smell would get pretty bad. Maybe some bags of lime would help keep things fresh?

How about a small thermite reaction which welds the whole thing together?

I can't imagine that being illegal.

I vote for one of those things that swings a log down suspended by two ropes and smashes you in the side!!!

You could mount it up on the ceiling to the side of the door and just spraypaint the whole thing in a nice eggshell, or ecru, or possibly a French Grey... Anything that really compliments the hallway would work I think.
