HPC electric pick

Postby cass » 1 Nov 2004 14:55

Am i doing anything wrong??
Just recently received this pick from my supplier and since ive charged it up and tried to use it,well it or me cant pick a thing!!!
There i was only a week ago on a course when i managed to pick 3 boards full of locks, but get one back home and heypresto zilch.
Ive tried different tension on the tool, not the tension with the tension wrench but im finding the adjustment difficult,it doesnt seem to be vibrating right.
Any solutions please ??

Cass not to familiar with that hpc but if its not vibrating properley you may have it adjusted to tight. It does take pratice though.By the way where did you do your course?

Not really been on any since a couple of mla ones years ago.The reason i asked is because i have heard whispers that on one course they actually reduce the number of pins in there demo cylinders to make things "a little easier!" I hasten to add this wasNOT 24/7 course.

It might sound silly question cass but are you using the right side of the pick, i too have a hpc and it works great but do try holding your finger against the pick when its on to check if the needle is vibrating with power or not. One side it will stop vibrating (sort of go soft) when your fingers against it the other side you will feel.

hi cass

right , first check your bounce, adjust the tensioner until you get the right bounce on your hand.
ensure when you put the pick in the keyway , you are just covering the 5 pins and not the back bar too, as if in too deep you will be bouncing on back bar, this will make your bounce sound wrong and it wont pick a thing.

to start get a cylinder and mark the depth of the pins on the blade, you will then know you are at the right depth, angle the pick so it can bounce freely up and down, otherwise again you will get nowhere when you hit the lips.

practice is all it takes, i can assure you that every lock you opened on the course was fully pinned, the only boards with reduced pins is that impressioning board.

keep going.

Try fine sanding the pick to smooth it down this may help. :)
