Bump key, square cuts ?

Bump keys and lock bumping finally have their own area. Discuss making bump keys, proper bumping techniques, and countermeasures here.

Bump key, square cuts ?

Postby dislectus » 16 Feb 2015 4:03

Hi guys!
Been a hobbyist lock picker for some times now (3+ year i guess), milling cut-offs locks to practice picking using my own tools. Been moving on to 3D printed picker now :-)
I have a question about this key:

It's my mail box key which half the time gets stuck, which got me wondering how its mechanism works with square cuts?
Is there a way to create a bump key for this one?

Would love to hear your opinion and advice!

Thanks!

This is a lever lock. Usually 7 lever. Same mechanism as Lowe & Fletcher, for example.

You won't be making a bump key for this. No pins and no springs.

Where is it that they use lever locks for mail boxes? Don't think I have ever seen that. Looks like a safe deposit box key or other similar style key.

Here you go. Here's an example of a Lowe & Fletcher. They're found on such as desk drawers, old lockers and mail boxes.

I still have old postal lever locks in stock, don't see them in use much nowadays

Hmm.. so creating a bump key for a postal mail box which is most likely a federal crime.

1 post on the OP.. surprised no one jumped on this one yet..

In this case, there is no bump key created, and nor will there ever be.
