Learning A New Lock

When you start out with a new lock, especially if you are going into security pins for the first time, pick the lock with the shackle OPEN.

This will allow you to better practice tension control and pick pressure because you don't have to fight with the pressure from the actuator.

Sometimes just starting out, you'll have picked the lock but because of the heavy shackle pressure you'll think you're still in a binding situation. You'll continue to pick and wind up oversetting pins that were previously set correctly.
