How do I make one of those cool practice locks?

Postby south town ninja » 28 Feb 2015 10:05

How do I make one of those cool practice locks that has screws on top of the bible for re-pinning? I don't care about cut-away locks, been making those for a while, now i just want to make some that are easier to re-pin, for some people i am teaching how to pick. If anyone can teach me how to make these , i would be forever grateful. I believe these are called tap and die cylinders, but this nomenclature seems wrong. anyways, yeah, just trying to learn how to do these. Thanks

Take the top off the bible. Remove springs and pins. Tap top of chamber using a 6/32 tap. Clean up and reinstall springs and pins. Instead of the bible cover, screw a 6/32 allen into each chamber.

You only need a few threads. Just enough to hold the allen screw. The only "load" it will have is the driver spring.

Too bad You didn't get a Medeco mortise cylinder, they are already threaded

so i tapped the bible holes ( that doesn't sound right no matter what the context) to 6/32, bought some allen head screws, went to put them in and they are too wide. did i buy the wrong ones? or do i just have to grind em down one by one?
