Copydex Sliding Door Lock with no Key

Postby Wowdude » 11 Mar 2015 14:23

Hey,

I've got a lock on an old style metal sliding patio door that neither myself or my landlord have the key to.

There is no lock on the door itself but a little box at the bottom of the door with Copydex on the side.

I was just after a bit of advice on what to do:
Would it be best to get a lock pick to pick it and then replace it, can you get generic keys like those for window locks or is there anything else that i can do?

The landlord should pay to have to drilled or picked, tell him it is a matter of life safety in case of a fire or emergency. Unless he told you it's your problem to deal with. I dont know the rules or laws in your city/state/country.

Am I correct to say you cannot use that door to get out to the patio because it is locked right now? does the black plunger pull out or push in at all?

Thanks

Hi Squelchtone,

Thanks for your response.

The landlord isn't really bothered as there is a back door leading from the kitchen and through the garage so it I don't think it classes as a fire hazard.

I tried to push/pull the hammer with hammer/pliers after using some lock/steel greaser but no movement at all. So the door remains closed and locked.

Any more ideas before i call a locksmith?

Got any similar sized cabinet keys from a desk drawer or tool box that will fit inside the lock? Sometimes rocking them up and down and trying to turn the key at the same time is enough to align the wafers and get it unlocked.
