Thanks, but it's more laziness than genius  .
I miss the feedback I would get from my fingers though,
I guess theres no substitute for feeling through the fingers.

I watched bosniabills video where he used a similar design to show the feedback when looking for a false set when picking spools, was a good visual aid for me as a new picker to what you should be looking for through the tension tool when picking, not just security pins but normal pins too.
Cleared things up for me.
Not sure what the consensus here is regarding his videos, but as a noob his descriptions as he is picking really help me visualise what's going on in there as I ham fistedly blunder my way through a lock:)

On a side not picked a little masterlock padlock (easy I know) an abloy padlock and a 5 pin euro today:)

I think I've got the bug;)

Bravo on all of the ideas for improvised 'hands-free' tensioners.
As for Yorkie's question, BosnianBill's tutorial videos are pretty good in my opinion, a lot of his others are more hero-worship/challenge along the lines of "I know he is really good but I want to be able to do that too."

If would be interesting to make a wrench that has notches with a slideable weight that stops at each notch like an old timey scale.

Reading this made me think of using some sort of lightweight rod or tube, flattened at the end like a wrench and grooved down the tang/ handle to accomodate a (this is what 3 years in Japan does to you) 50 yen coin as an adjustable weight.

Alternatively, I suppose a normal steel washer would work, the yen would just look more interesting.

well, that settles it. next time I'm teaching someone how to pick and they ask, but Senpai, just how much tension does one need? All I'll say is 50 yen.
I know this is an old post...but I got a good laugh out of this last paragraph :) lol.

A very creative idea! I think I will try something similar.

I created something like this. I made a longer tension wrench out of some spring steel. It is a twisted tension wrench to allow flex, and on the end that does not go in the lock, I curled it into a "loop". I then used a binder clip and put some larger steel washers into the binder clip, and then hooked it on the loop. The washer system allows you to easily add and remove weights as need. It's ugly, but works very well.
